Route Description

L-Armier & Coral Lagoon Coastal Trail

Northern Malta is a rugged coastal region centered around Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa, where open sea views, rocky headlands, and quiet rural tracks define the landscape. In the far northeast, around L-Aħrax and Armier, the scenery becomes especially remote and windswept, with low limestone shores, exposed cliffs, clear turquoise water, and wide panoramic views stretching toward Comino.

The area combines wild shoreline scenery with a simple rural character shaped by patchwork fields, rough coastal paths, a campsite, and scattered hunting huts set across the open terrain. This gives the peninsula a raw, sparsely inhabited feel that stands apart from the more built-up parts of Malta, while still offering easy access to some of the island’s most striking coastal scenery.

One of the main natural highlights is the Coral Lagoon, a dramatic circular sea inlet carved into the rock along the eastern edge of the route. Together with the surrounding rocky coastline, sheltered coves, and open sea vistas, it makes this trail one of the most distinctive and scenic coastal walks in northern Malta.
